Road Safety Tip:
Skating Tips:
1)  Look to your left before steppin' out on the skate floor.  : )
2)  Don't leave the rink without your personal belongings (i.e., club jackets, kids, skates!)
3)  When learning a new move Espicially beginners try to keep your arms below your             shoulders. This will help you maintain your balance if you start to fall.
4)  The key to better balance, is to always bend your knees.

THE 411
Here are a few things to keep in mind to help keep you crime free on the road.

Don’t drink or do other drugs and drive. And don’t ride with drivers who are under the influence. Keep your car in good working conditionand the gas tank full. If your car does break down, pull over and stay inside it with the doors locked and the windows rolled up. and if  you feel unsafe, Wait for the police to arrive or ask a passing motorist to call the police for you.

When parking always lock a parked car and keep items out of plain veiw. When returning to your car remember to look under and inside the entire car, to see if someone has gotten into your car before you get back in. Avoid parking in isolated areas. If you’re uncomfortable about where your car is parked, ask a security guard or store staff to watch or escort you to your car.

If you think you are being followed, drive to the nearest gas station, open business, or busy, well-lighted area to get help, DON'T HEAD HOME. Use your cellular phone, (if you have one), to call the police  Otherwise, stay off cellular phones while you are driving. Don’t pick up hitchhikers. Don’t hitchhike.
And by all means , buckle up SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES. In CALI its the LAW!

A short history in Roller Skating
The History of Roller Skating
Let me start by saying that I’m no historian.  I’m a hard core skater to the bone.  Like most of you, I live and breathe roller skating. We skate at least once a week, some of us two even three times a week. We love everything about it. The rink, the gathering and making new friends, the sights and sounds, hell; some of us even have personalized skate plates on our vehicles, and tatoo's on our bodies.

But think about it, I mean reeeeealy think about it. How many of us know or even care how roller skating was started?  Anyway,  if you were ever curious…here it is.

As near as historians can determine, roller skating originated in Europe in the early 1700s, likely as an experiment intended to extend the ice skating season or to move ice skating indoors during a period prior to the creation of artificial ice.

A Belgian inventor—Joseph Merlin—introduced the first recorded roller skate in 1760. What an introduction! He wore his new skates to a party in London, where he crashed into an expensive mirror. He wasn't very interested in skating after this experience.  Other models of skates, many with in-line wheels to imitate an ice skating blade, followed.

In 1863, James Plimpton, a Massachusetts businessman, invented a roller skate that could turn— the first one that allowed people to skate curves and turn. He opened a skating club in New York where gentleman showed off for the ladies by doing fancy figures, steps and turns.  Within 20 years, roller skating had become a popular pastime for men and women.

In the 40s, 50s and 60s. It became known as a family activity that provides fitness, socialization and fun— an image that prevails today.  By 1977 people everywhere were bounce skating to music

In 1986, manufacturers began offering in-line skates to fitness enthusiasts. By the mid-90s, in-line skating and in-line hockey had become two of the most popular sports in America.   The rest is history...

"ICE" - good info - please read
Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity.  You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they
are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency.  If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly.  It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.  ICE your cell phone NOW!
Hey Sk8ers Here are the most common sk8ers styles, and termonology.

Keep in mind that these are not ATWT's terms, (in other words we did'nt make them up) This material is Copyright 1994-1996 by George Robbins. and updaded by ATWT.
But we, as well as other skaters use these terms/definitions in our daily skate lingo.

They are the most common terms used throughtout the U.S.   Now we know that some areas call the "Crazy legs" Rubbers legs and so on. But when you show your fellow skater a particular move, they know exactly what you are talking about.
Anyway nuff talk, here they are.
Shuffle Skating
Shuffle skating usually implies faster skating where the basic stroking is replaced by fancy footwork - a repetive pattern of fore-aft shuffles, sculls, scissors and body dips. Hardcore shuffle skaters often skate as synchronized couples or in packs. Advanced shuffle skaters may also do synchronized turns, jumps, kicks and floor tapping. Also known as Freestyle, Jamming, Cruising or Trucking in some areas.

Rexing
Rexing is fast backwards shuffle skating, with style or in patterns, single or couples. The term is local to Southern California, and though folks skate backwards in many places, only in California were there Rexing clubs and competitions. Also known as Jamming in the midwest. Why backards? There's something different about flying butt-first, and the balances allows a lot of toe-action and many odd scissored or moon-walking gaits.

Side-Surfing/Sidewinder
Side-surfing is skating in a spread-eagled stance, with feet rolling one forward, one back. Good or flexible side-surfers can get a strong propulsive action going and skating inside or outside around curves. Side-surfing is also preferred for extreme skating on the ramps or bowls of skate parks.

Dance (contemporary)
In contemporary dance skating, the emphasis is on dancing or expressive skating to contemporary music, disco/house/rock/rap/whatever. The pace may be fast or slow, the skating may be simply stepping/gliding on the beat or it may include synchronized maneuvers, turns, spins or jumps. In some areas this is called freestyle to separated it from the more programmed or rigid styles of dance.

Roller Disco/Jamming/Urban Disco or Jamming
Includes elements derived from break dancing, disco dancing, aerobics, posing and synchronized exaggerated movements, often to disco, rap or other heavy beat oriented music. Some rinks in the Chicago/Michigan areas also have James Brown skating which emphasizes classic soul/R&B music. At other rinks
you'll find skaters with choreographed programs for certain selections or called line dances where a handful or dozens of skaters try to execute the programs. Sometimes called Skate Dancing or Stepping.

Grapvine/Spot Rexing
Basically this is the devolution of jamming and fancy footwork into a stationary or very confined pattern. The ideal grapevine would be done on a 3'x3' square platform. The grapevine can also refer to fancy intertwined footwork that would leave a braided pattern across the floor. In some areas, this is called rubberlegging.

Strutting, Slow Walking, Moonwalking
These are forms of skating where the degree of body movement or foot work is realativly great in comparison the progress around the rink. One form of backwards strut involves skating backwards while doing crossed-behind outside edges. The local Slow Walk involves a line of people doing turns, strokes an two-steps forward, one step back as they work around the periphery of the rink. Moonwalking involves skating where the rolling stroke of the skate is opposite what you'd expect for the direction of travel.

Inspirational thought for today's troubled World.

What ever you may be going through prayer is the answer
We often don't realize how heavy the weight of worry is and how much energy it requires until we are able to let go of it.
Lord, I place my trust in You to clear my thinking, help me resolve my concerns and bring me to a place of peace.!
